Our Nursery – Proud of our Roots

Turnbull Circa 1935

The land that is farmed by Turnbull Nursery Inc has been a part of the Western New York growing industry since the late 1800’s.  Through the generations it has evolved from pig and chicken farmers to vegetables to fruit and nursery stock.  There were many partnerships throughout the years and in 1988, the Turnbull Family became the sole owners.  Today it is ran by the third, fourth and fifth generations of the Turnbull Family.

Since 1988, we have primarily been a wholesale grower of small fruits (grape, raspberry, currant, etc..), and shrubs that supply bare root plants to other wholesale nurseries from the mid west to the northeast United States and Canada.   We also supply bare root and container products to retail garden centers throughout the northeast United States.

In 1992, Turnbull’s opened their very own retail garden center.   Since our opening day we have been ever expanding through the years.  Our plant selection has vastly grown since our beginning.   In 1992 we started with about 10 varieties of lilacs out of a small 16’x20′ garage.  Today we sell close to 1000 varieties of trees, shrubs, evergreens, vines, fruits, perennials and ornamental grasses.  We only carry hardy varieties that can withstand a “Buffalo winter.” If we can not produce it ourselves, we purchase material from other northern nurseries within our climate zone.  We pride ourselves on carrying a very large selection of Native plant material.

In 2017, we started plant installation services.  Since then, it has grown into complete excavation services that include landscaping, pond excavation, land clearing, building site excavation and more.

In 2023, we opened our newest retail building featuring custom woodwork, heated floors, easy access openings and a handicap accessible restroom.  We also expanded our blacktopped container yard, reconfigured our layout for a more orgainzed shopping expierience, added a pavilion and new greenhouses to our grounds. Our parking lot was also expanded to accommodate more customers  and added handicap parking right in front of the building.

We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover credit cards, as well as cash and personal checks (with ID). We also work with our customer’s schedules. We can hold purchased plants until you are ready to plant. This way, your plants are being well watered and you do not have to worry about taking care of them before they are planted. We will do everything we can to help with your landscaping experience!
